English proficiency not required: See the list of countries and institutions who are exempt from the requirement. For example, students from Bangladesh (who graduated from BUET, CUET, KUET, DUET, IUB, IUT and SUST) do not need IELTS or TOEFL.

Note that international PhD students at USASK do not pay fee diferential, like other universities across Canada (pay same as domestic/local students).

**Information for international students**

There is a fast-track immigration program (known as SINP) for international students who graduate from the University of Saskatchewan (UofS). Open Position

We have funded graduate students positions. A PhD student gets a guaranteed fund of $20k-22k/year. If you get department scholarships, it is $24k/year.
In addition, you will get marker and TA positions after you start your program which is around 3k-4k/year (2 terms).

The tuition fee is very cheap (around $5.5k/year as of 2026), since international PhD students at usask do not pay fee differential. Living expenses are much cheaper compared to most cities in Canada.

Therefore, the standard funding rate is sufficient to cover the expenses of the student. The spouse of the student gets work permit and can work.
